China’s northeast, home of the rare and extraordinary Amur tiger regularly records temperatures below -30C in winter. The kind of temperature that freezes your breath before it leaves you.

We visited China’s State Administration Feline Research Centre to meet with our colleague, Prof. Dr Jiang, and his research team, and discuss our ongoing research work to use footprint identification for tiger monitoring.

Our first joint paper on sex identification in the Amur tiger has been accepted for publication and the second, on individual identification, is almost ready.

Together with Dr Jiang’s dedicated and expert team we will encourage the Amur tiger back to their original homeland in China.
